Meet John Fest
Owner & Lead Painter
I've been painting homes in San Antonio and the Hill Country for over 20 years. For most of that time, I was also a San Antonio firefighter. I retired from the department in 2024 and now run House of Hues full-time. This has always been my passion business - I do it because I love the work.
I came up through art - drawing and painting were always my thing. Turns out that eye for detail translates well to this work. I know what a proper paint job should look like, and I know the difference between cutting corners and doing it right.
I only use Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore. They cost more, but they cover better, last longer, and look the way paint should look. Cheaper products mean more coats, more touch-ups, and repainting sooner. Not worth it.

Why "House of Hues"?
People ask about the name. I'm a big music guy - always have been. House of Hues is a nod to the House of Blues, the legendary venue. It's where my two passions meet: color and music. Plus, it's a lot more memorable than "John's Painting."
No Job Too Small
Some folks assume I only take on big houses or major projects. Not true. I'll paint a single room, refinish a few cabinets, or stain a small deck. This is my passion - I genuinely enjoy the work, whether it's a weekend touch-up or a whole-house transformation. If you have a project, I'd love to hear about it.
